I fucking hate that typeface.

Geeeeeeew, I don’t even know where to start with that DA page. It’s like a storm of what not to do over there.

You basically have nothing.

The first mistake you’ve made, and probably the most irritating, is asking for a plug for an idea, which is what this is.

There’s 2 “pages” that are nearly impossible to read, and the most finished work is the FUCKING DONATION PIC. Come on…

As a reader of comics you have to understand how irritating it is to follow a link to a “comic” and get 2 pages. 2 barely legible pages at that. With random images all scattershot around them. Plus, it doesn’t look like there’s been an update since February? And it was a profile sketch? The next one back is from JANUARY? And it’s the GODDAMN DONATION BUTTON!

Tell me who is going to tolerate a once a month posting schedule?

I mean, is this what I’m supposed to be presenting to the readers that I’ve basically dedicated my life to entertaining?

If you want this to work you have to get your shit together, because this won’t fly.

Since you said something about getting a real site I’ll just say, in passing, that DA is a really poor choice for comic hosting. I know this because I posted 300 some odd pages there. If you’re going to use a site that doesn’t give you control over presentation there are better services. Ones dedicated to comics. I mention this for anyone who might happen upon this post in the future…

First of all decide on a schedule and STICK TO IT. Once a week MINIMUM. Sure, you can post less often than that, but don’t expect to get anywhere. Not unless you present something really exemplary with each update. Don’t start posting until you are SURE your artist can keep up.

Fix the text. Either do a better job hand lettering, or drop some in with whatever software you can get your hands on. If no one can read the story no one will.

If you can do those two things you’ll be headed in the right direction for success, but don’t misunderstand me. You’ll just be pointed at it, and the first thing is one of the hardest parts of making comics. I can’t begin to explain to you how difficult it is to keep a schedule. It’s just something you have to experience and it is the thing that will probably break you.

It could potentially end your relationship.

If you post regularly, and the story is strong enough, the art can catch up. You can get by with any one strength basically, but sticking to a schedule turns reading your work into habit.

Anyway, I’m sure there are things I forgot, but that’s all the stuff that I was able to get typed up while rage was powering me.

Thirdlish, this response might come across as mean, but it isn’t. I’m going to answer it seriously rather than just blow you off with a joke. If you’re really a fan of my stuff this tone should not be a surprise to you.

Right off the bat, where is your URL? It doesn’t appear to be on your profile anywhere. The posts in your archive are apparently all random Tumblr garbage. For someone who wants attention for their work you’ve certainly made it hard to find.

If you’d at least had a direct link to your page on your profile you could have leeched a few pageviews from me just from the curious. So you’ve pissed away an opportunity right there.

You need to take a wider look at what you’re doing. All interaction on the Internet is an opportunity to gain attention for yourself. Don’t waste it.

Every second someone has to spend looking for your work is another chance for them to realize they could be doing a million better things with their time. DO NOT GIVE THEM THOSE SECONDS.

Anyway, having not been able to see any of your stuff I can only offer the following observation:

The most common slam you’re going to hear because of your title is this: Obviously. When you eventually get a hatecrit, and you will if you stick with it long enough, that will be the first joke. If there’s anything a hatecrit loves it’s low hanging fruit. So, just be ready for that.

The Magnus to end all Magni. I was hoping against hope that my G1 ultra Magnus accessories would peg properly into the shoulder mounts of Prime Ultra Magnus. I’ve been wanting an Ultra Magnus worthy of the title for a long time. Ever since that goddamn comic where they knocked his city commander armor off Hasbro has been farting out Optimus Primes repainted white and telling us that it’s Ultra Magnus. Well fuck that noise. Magnus is supposed to be big, awesome, and structurally different from Prime.

What I really wanted was that 3rd party City Commander thing, but when it came out I had no money, and honestly what I spent on this should have been spent in any number of other ways, but it was starting to look like a now or never situation as far as this version of Magnus was concerned and I’ve learned that regretting having something is much better than regretting not having something.

I still remember the Christmas when I got G1 Ultra Magnus. I played with him so much that I eventually had to replace parts of him with the remains of Optimus Prime who I also played with to the point of nearly complete destruction. It’s really cool to pass these weapons down to the next generation.

Let’s start by ignoring the fact that all you look like here is an over-zealous Monopoly player.

No one is asking to be mugged. If you went out dressed like this (and that was real money), you aren’t asking to be mugged. You don’t want to be mugged. You don’t deserve to be mugged.

The reality of the situation is that, yes, you’re somewhat more likely to be mugged if you’re dressed like that. But you’re still not “asking for it”, and if you were to press charges against the person who mugged you? No one would claim you were. You wouldn’t have to fight to have your attacker face consequence. If you were someone of enough importance that you being mugged would be reported on the news, the media would not sympathize with your attackers and say that you’re ruining their lives by reporting that they mugged you. They would get the standard sentence, and the fact that you happened to be dressed in a way that showcased you have a lot of money.

You wouldn’t be alienated and belittled by your friends and family or abandoned by your significant other for something you couldn’t control. You wouldn’t be denied coverage for any medical attention you may need because the police “couldn’t be sure you were mugged” even if there was more than enough evidence.

You wouldn’t be forced to be surrounded by people making jokes where the crime committed against you is the punchline.

Because no one is “asking” to be mugged.

If you were wearing a shirt that said “Kill me” and someone murdered you, would people say you were asking for it? No. For any other crime, no one is ever considered to have been asking for it.

The problem is that rape is treated differently. Even though it’s just as horrific a crime as being mugged or robbed, and often has far worse psychological effects in the long run, it’s treated as a fact of life and it happening is so frequently considered to be the fault of the victim. (Even though this inherently doesn’t make sense, because how can you be asking for something that is by definition a non-consensual act?)

Victims are being blamed for the actions of criminals, and that (at least for a white, heterosexual, cisgender man like yourself) would never happen in regard to any other crime. It’s inexcusable.

Because you know what? Women are not raped because of what they’re wearing, or how much they had to drink, or any other factor. Completely sober women in turtlenecks and cargo pants are raped. Women were raped in petticoats and bloomers. Rape happens because of the rapists, not the victims. Even if no woman ever showed an inch of skin or ever impaired their judgement with recreational drinking, rape would still happen.

And yet society is systematically protecting the criminals at the expense of the victims. If that happened with murderers, there would be a world-wide outcry.

The moral of the story is, stop thinking of rape as “just sex” or what have you. It’s a crime and it needs to be treated like any other crime.
